J. Wilkes design for central supermarket

J. Wilkes plan for Dursley Town Centre Traffic

'The Towers' would be doubled in size and converted into a major conference hotel. The hotel would have landscaped grounds and extensive car parks. Guests would enjoy views of the new lake in the valley below.
The fuel station by the supermarket would be a convenient facility for guests of the hotel.

The successful future of Dursley relies on improving its vitality and viability as a thriving market town. To achieve this aim, Dursley must offer shopping facilities on a par with the nearby town of Stroud. This means that the building of a high quality Supermarket in the centre of Dursley should be considered a high priority. Such a development would be an ideal opportunity to create a new town centre. The new development should be integrated into the existing fabric of the town so that there is easy and direct pedestrian access to Parsonage Street and the Market Place area.

The New Centre
